The Yucaipa Valley Water District has a long history in this area. It was formed as part of reorganization, before the Reorganization Act of 1965. In 1971, the Secretary of State of the State of California certified and declared formation of the District and dissolved the Calimesa Water Company and Improvement District A of San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District. The District operates under the County Water District Law, being Division 12 of the State of California Water Code. Water is not the only service that the Yucaipa Valley Water District offers a wide variety of services.
The Secretary of State of California certified the formation of the new district to offer a wide variety of services to the residential and commercial customers in the Yucaipa Valley area.
One such service is the District’s local water supply. This is supplied from local wells and surface water, which is collected from Birch and Oak Glen Creek, Adams and Clark Tunnels and through purchases from the State Water Project, which include the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District and the San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency to filter and recharge the groundwater basin.
Sewer service is another offering from the Yucaipa Valley Water District www.yvwd.dst.ca.us. Wochholz Regional Water Recycling Facility handles the sewer treatment. Wochholz provides the capability to remove minerals from recycled water and provides advanced reverse osmosis treatment to insure recycled water safety.
Yucaipa Valley Water District operates many water recycling facilities throughout the region. This recycled water is used for irrigation at parks, schools, golf courses and other large landscape areas requiring irrigation. Utilizing recycled water for this type of irrigation conserves the drinking water supply.
The Yucaipa Valley Water District completed an extension of the Inland Empire Brineline. The Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority operates the Brineline. Using this brine disposal is vital to meeting the strict water quality controls set by the Regional Water Quality Control Board to insure water safety.
