Managing National Grid Services Online

National Grid National Grid (www.nationalgrid.com) is a former state utility of the United Kingdom, generating electricity and energy under government control until privatisation. Today, National Grid provides services across the UK, Europe and the northeast of the US. National Grid is a parent company to a number of different sub-brands, which may provide your electricity or natural gas energy supply directly. They include New England Power Company, Massachusetts Electric Company, Nantucket Electric, The Narragansett Electric Company and Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. Billing is still handled centrally, and you are able to make payments to your bill online at the National Grid US website.

It is important to note that you can’t pay your bill at www.nationalgrid.com – the corporate homepage. Instead, you need to visit www.nationalgridus.com, where you can view your energy account and pay any outstanding bills by credit card, debit card or online payment.

Making Your National Grid Payment Online

If you want to make a payment on your bill, head over to www.nationalgrid.com, and navigate to the US site. Click the green Pay My Bill link on www.nationalgridus.com to get started. This will present a popup where you can choose where you are based, so you are best directed to pay your outstanding bill amount.

On the next screen, you will be presented with a range of different payment options, and links to complete each payment method. These include payment by bank account, or by credit and debit cards (up to $600 maximum). You can also enrol in Direct Pay, or setup a recurring payment depending on the option you click here. Choose the right option for your payment needs, and click to proceed to the next page.

Ways to Pay

Depending on your selection, you will now need to fill in payment details for your bill, or to create an account for managing your online billing in future.

Direct National Grid Bill Pay and Recurring Payments

One of the most convenient features of payments to National Grid are Direct Pay and Recurring Payments. Direct Pay authorizes National Grid to deduct the relevant amount according to your bill every month, so you never have to worry about actively paying the bill. Alternatively, you can set up a recurring payment for a fixed amount if you prefer, but you may still owe extra for any additional usage. Both of these payment methods automate the payment process, so you don’t have to spend as much time worrying about making your payment.

Other Payment Methods

If you don’t want to automate the amount you pay each month, you can still make one-off payments through the National Grid website. You can pay through your bank account, or by a credit or debit card, but only for sums less than $600. Simply enter your card or account details when prompted, and move through the payment gateway to complete your transaction. When it’s finished, you’ll get sent a confirmation to the email address you provided for your records, or you can check to see your payment has been credited through your online National Grid account control panel.
